The ClickView Chapter Concatenator is a standalone utility introduced in ClickView Publisher 4.4 and above.
The primary purpose of this utility is to allow institutions to merge auto-segmented material together in order to form one single chapter:
Some advantages of using the ClickView Chapter Concatenator utility to merge segmented material in to one chapter include:
- Elimination of chapter transitioning during video playback
- Less files require storage - if a video containing ten chapters is concatenated, the result is that the ten chapters are joined together to form one chapter - this results in nine less physical files being stored in an institutions ClickView setup and within their ClickView Online repository of videos
- Overall Performance improvements - ClickView Online serves material to clients using industry standard 'Streaming Media' - the auto-segmentation of ClickView material was beneficial when the ClickView Player application was the primary method of accessing ClickView material, however in recent years ClickView Online has become the primary method of accessing ClickView content due to the numerous advantages it has over the now deprecated ClickView Player application
If your institution has removed the binary data from your on-premise ClickView Publisher setup, the ClickView Chapter Concatenator will attempt to automatically re-download this video from ClickView Online for concatenation purposes. For this reason ClickView strongly recommends that your ClickView Library has been fully synchronised to ClickView Online prior to using the ClickView Chapter Concatenator to concatenate any of your institutions segmented material.
Institutions are only able to concatenate material that has been added to their ClickView Publisher themselves - the ClickView commercial material is unable be concatenated in any capacity.
In order for the ClickView Chapter Concatenator to detect material for concatenation, the material must contain at least three chapters or more of the same duration; In addition to this, all chapters, except the final chapter of the video must be of the same duration.
Important Note: The ClickView Chapter Concatenator replaces the original segmented copy of the title with the concatenated copy upon completion. With this being the case, ClickView strongly recommends that a comprehensive backup of all your ClickView library is taken prior to using the ClickView Chapter Concatenator utility. Guidance on taking a full backup of your ClickView Library can be found at the article below
Using the ClickView Chapter Concatenator
The ClickView Chapter Concatenator is a standalone utility that can only be run from the ClickView Publisher (Master) instance. To launch this utility, browse to the installation directory of your ClickView Publisher (Master) instance.
The simplest way to access this location is to right-click on the ClickView Publisher, Desktop Shortcut > 'Open File location'
Once in this location, locate the 'ClickViewChapterConcatenator.exe' application > Right-click on this 'Run as administrator' - this utility can be found in the root of of your ClickView Publisher installation directory (as shown in the screenshot below):
Upon launching the Concatenator utility, you will be reminded to verify that you have a full backup available of your ClickView data in place.
If you are satisfied that you have a full backup of your ClickView Library in place, click 'Yes' to proceed.
The ClickView Chapter Concatenator will then launch, you will then be presented with a summary detailing the following information:
- Number of auto-segmented videos detected
- Number of videos concatenated
In the example below we can see that the ClickView Chapter Concatenator has detected '85' videos that are eligible for concatenation. If you wish to concatenate all eligible videos, you can simply click 'Start Merge' and this will begin the concatenation process.
If you only wish to concatenate specific videos, simply click 'None' to de-select all titles and then manually check the box of titles that you wish to concatenate.
Once you have selected all desired videos that you wish to concatenate click on 'Start Merge'
The ClickView Chapter Concatenator will then begin the concatenation process.
You will be able to monitor the individual progress of each video by following the 'Video Title' and 'Status' information as shown in the screenshot below:
Once the concatenation process has completed, all material that has been concatenated should be visible within the respective ClickView Publisher folder that it was initially located in.
As we can see in the example below, 'A Few Good Men' has been successfully concatenated and now only contains one chapter - the original segmented copy of this particular title which contained 31 individual chapters has been superseded by the concatenated version that now exists.
All material which is successfully concatenated will need to be uploaded to ClickView Online.
