The ClickView Local Cache Manager allows institutions to download files that may be missing from their Local Cache repository; it can also be used for institutions who have transitioned their ClickView setup to a cloud-only solution but have then decided that they wish to re-utilise the Local Cache functionality once again.
The Local Cache solution that ClickView Online makes use of to deliver content over the Local Area Network relies upon certain files being cached on your ClickView server.
The ClickView Local Cache Manager can only be run from an institutions Master instance of ClickView Publisher - it cannot be run from client instances of ClickView Publisher.
Note: The ClickView Local Cache Manager is only available in version 4.3 or higher of ClickView Publisher.
Q: How does this tool work?
A: The Local Cache Manager will allow institutions to download their ClickView Local cache content, for videos that have been uploaded to the ClickView Online Platform.
Q: Should I use this tool?
A: The Local Cache Manager should be used by institutions in the following situations:
- To reconstruct the Local Cache solution when an institution has opted to move to a Cloud only solution, but have later discovered they do not have the required bandwidth to serve ClickView Online viewing appropriately
- To reconstruct the Local Cache solution when an institution has found that the Local cache directory has been removed, or compromised in any way
Q: Is this feature available on non-ClickView Server installations of ClickView Publisher?
A: No, this feature will only be available on the Server instance of ClickView Publisher, not on the management instances installed on Librarian or content curators machines.
Q: If this tool is utilised will this impact the operation of ClickView Player?
A: This tool won't impact the usage of ClickView Player as it is solely concerned with downloading content to be utilised by the ClickView Online platform.
Note: Please ensure that the registry entry found under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\ClickView\ClickView Home\LocalCacheEnabled = 1 (from 0)
This will ensure the local cache manager is able to open properly. You may need to restart the Publisher application for this to take effect.
To run the ClickView Local Cache Manager, you will need to launch ClickView Publisher (Master) and navigate to Tools -> ClickView Local Cache Manager.
Running the tool will present you with a list of your institutions ClickView folder structure - example shown below.
The ClickView Local Cache Download Manager can be configured to run during certain periods within the day. These settings can be accessed from the following section of the ClickView Local Cache Manager.
This will allow you to setup the ClickView Local Cache Manager to run at two separate time periods:
- All the Time - This will download Local Cache material at any time of the day.
- Nightly (6pm - 7am) - This will download cache material between 6pm and 7am.
Expanding each folder will produce a list of videos that are currently contained within these folders within your Library:
To then download the Local Cache files for each video you will need to tick the checkbox against the specific video(s) that you wish to download.
To download the cache files for all videos within a specific folder you can instead tick the checkbox against the folder itself.
The ClickView Local Cache Manager will display the following message "Downloads in Progress - X/Y successfully processed".
The ClickView Local Cache manager will output the following messages:
- "Local Cache files already exist" - This chapter was already present within the Local Cache folder.
- "Download Completed" - All of the cached chapters for this video have been downloaded to the ClickView Local Cache Directory.
Clicking the Download selected Videos button will download the Synced cached content across the internet using your WAN connection, and place it within your Local Cache directory.
