The master instance of ClickView Publisher has an in-built backup utility that allows for a scheduled or manual backup of an institutions ClickView Data to be set - this backup will be comprehensive and will contain a school's ClickView database as well as the physical data itself.
ClickView strongly recommends that you set up a scheduled backup as to ensure in the event of data loss, a backup containing all of your ClickView data can be restored.
If you are intending to back up to any form of network location, please follow this article prior to following the information listed in this tutorial - as to ensure that the ClickView Publisher service is set to run using a network account which has sufficient permissions to write to the network location that has been specified for the backup.
When setting the location that you want to back your ClickView data up to, specify the local directory that you wish to backup to; or if backing up to a network location, the UNC path of the location you intend to backup to - mapped drives are not supported for the backup target path.
Please ensure that the backup directory that is specified for the backup is not located on the same logical drive as where your ClickView data currently resides.
Step 1 - Open the Backup Utility
Open the ClickView Publisher interface, select 'Tools' from the top menu and click on 'Backup Utility'
Step 2 - Select the Backup Path for ClickView Publisher Data
Click on the browse button [".."] in the "Backup Target Path for ClickView Data" section. Navigate to and select the target backup folder. This path can be referenced to either a local drive (internal or external) or a network drive.
From here, browse to your desired backup location. In our case, we have selected a network location of 'Daniel-PC' and created a 'Backup' Folder in this location. This location was then selected as our Backup target path by clicking 'OK'.
The 'Backup Target Path' now shows the location which we have set.
Step 3 - Schedule Backup
ClickView Strongly recommends that you setup a scheduled backup of your ClickView Data so that in the event of a data loss your ClickView data can be easily recovered.
Tick the 'Schedule Backup' box and choose from daily, weekly or monthly frequency and the time to run - ClickView recommends that you set this to 'Daily' as to ensure you have the latest additions to your ClickView Library available for recovery in the event of a data failure.
The scheduled time can be set to begin the backup at any stage across 24 hours:
Select the desired time for the backup to begin and then click the 'Apply' box.
The backup utility interface can now be closed without affecting the scheduled backup and will execute at the scheduled time and frequency which has been set.
Step 1 - Open the Backup Utility

Step 2 - Select the Backup Path for ClickView Data

Step 3- Start the Backup Process
The 'Backup Now' box can be used to start an immediate backup of your ClickView data
Step 4 - Running the Backup Process
During the 'Backup Now' process the Backup Utility will display the number of files that have been backed up, the number of files that need to be backed up, and the total number of files found within your database.
Each time the Backup Utility is executed only the files that have been recently modified, or not backed up, will be copied. Thus the number of files to back up may not match the total number of files within your database as some may have been already backed up.
Note: Please do not close the backup utility whilst a manual backup is taking place as this will cause the backup to cease.
Step 5 - Confirm Completion
Once the 'Backup Now' process has completed, simply close the backup utility.
The following steps run through how a ClickView administrator can restore a back up of ClickView Material.
Step 2 - Open ClickView Publisher, and stop the ClickView Publisher service by clicking "File" from the menu and then choosing "Stop ClickView Publisher Service".
Step 3 - Navigate to the location where your ClickView backup is located and Copy the CVDB.mdb file.
Step 4 - Navigate to your ClickView Publisher installation path and paste the file and select "Replace" when prompted.
Step 5 - Now navigate back to your backup directory, and copy all of the folders located within this directory.
Step 6 - Similarly as with Step 4, navigate to the recent ClickView Publisher installation path and paste the copied folders. Once again, choose "Replace All" or "Do this for all current items" when prompted.
Step 7 - Once the files have been transferred successfully, go to the new ClickView Publisher installation directory and run the file 'UninstallClickViewService.exe'.
A Command window will open up briefly and close once it has completed the task.
Then, still in the ClickView Publisher installation folder, select and run the file 'InstallClickViewService.exe'.
Again this will open up a Command window briefly and close once it has completed the task.
Step 8 - Make sure that the backup was successful by opening ClickView Publisher. Click on 'Tools', 'Data Management'. Within the Data Management window, click 'verify data' to ensure that the appropriate content has been restored.
When the backup process completes you will be notified if it encountered any errors whilst copying the files. All errors will be logged to the ClickView Publisher log file 'ClickViewLibraryLog.txt', which can be found in the root of the ClickView Library installation folder.
