This article will explain the use IP Authentication for use with ClickView Online. IP Authentication allows an institution to set up guest authentication into ClickView Online. The IP Address range of your institution's public network will need to be provided to ClickView, so when ClickView Online is accessed on a device within that IP Address range, ClickView Online is automatically logged into a guest account. A unique URL will be provided to your institution to access ClickView Online, which specifically allows IP Authentication.
IP Authentication is only available to Primary and Tertiary institutions with a valid subscription to the ClickView product.
Q: What is IP Authentication?
A: IP Authentication is a method of guest authentication to ClickView Online when a user accesses ClickView Online from their institution, using a unique ClickView Online URL. The IP Address range the institution's public network is provided to ClickView. This allows ClickView Online to use the IP Address of the machine accessing ClickView Online, to identify which institution it belongs to, and then authenticate into a guest account. The guest account allows users to browse their institution's ClickView Online Library, ClickView Exchange and Albert. Minimum video access ratings can be set by ClickView to allow guest accounts to access content up to a specific video rating.
Q: How does IP Authentication work?
A: When a device accesses ClickView Online [via their unique URL], their public IP Address is provided to ClickView. If this public IP address falls within a range of IP Addresses which were specified by an institution, we know that device belongs to that institution, and therefore we can allow guest authentication into ClickView Online.
Q: How is IP Authentication set up?
A: An institution provides ClickView with their public IP Address range so we can identify devices accessing ClickView Online from their institution. We set everything else up on our end and provide your institution with a unique URL to access ClickView Online.
- To set up IP Authentication, please email ClickView Support with the IP range of your institution.
Q: What is the advantage of IP Authentication?
A: IP Authentication allows users within an institution's network to access ClickView Online via a unique URL, without having to authenticate to ClickView Online by inputting a username or password. This means that specific user accounts do not need to be created for users to access their institution's content on ClickView Online.
Q: What are the characteristics of a Guest account on ClickView Online?
A: Currently, IP Authentication is only supported for Primary and Tertiary institutions. Guest accounts will only allow users to access their institution's ClickView Library. The screenshot below illustrates what is accessible via the guest account.
Note: It is important to note that minimum video access ratings can be set by ClickView to allow guest accounts to access content up to a specific video rating.
Q: Can I access ClickView Online away from my institution?
A: It is not possible to authenticate to ClickView Online using IP authentication from a device which is not connected to your institution's network. To log into ClickView Online away from your institution, users will need to log into ClickView Online the conventional way, using one of our Single Sign On options or using an email address and password through the main site.
