This tutorial provides steps on how to set up ClickView Publisher (Master) and your institution's ClickView Library towards either a hybrid Local Cache solution or a full cloud-only solution. In either setup, the ClickView binary video data will not be saved on the server for playback by ClickView Player -this reduces the amount of hard drive space required to use ClickView, as video binary data is not saved.
To further reduce the amount of hard drive space required, local cache can be disabled and removed to allow for a full cloud-only solution - this will minimise the amount of hard drive space required to use ClickView, as all video playback will stream from ClickView's servers, rather than through your institution's local server. This is only recommended if your institution has a fast internet connection. If your institution's internet connection or bandwidth is an issue, it is highly recommended to enable and store Local Cache video data for local playback through ClickView Online.
This tutorial assumes that ClickView Publisher (Master), and the content within your institution's Digital Library have been installed and synchronised to ClickView Online. The binary removal utility will only remove binary video data, if the title has been synchronised to ClickView Online.
NOTE: It is HIGHLY recommended to run the ClickView Publisher (Master) instance on a computer with at least 50GB of hard drive space free. By default, titles are set to synchronise overnight (this can be changed by following this tutorial). If a large number of titles have been added to ClickView Publisher during the day before a synchronisation could be run at the scheduled time, hard drive space will be needed to store the binary video data until the scheduled synchronisation.
Cloud Only - With Local Cache
The following steps must be performed on the ClickView Publisher (Master) instance.
1. Launch ClickView Publisher.
2. Expand the working folders to see what folders have titles in them. Folders with a '+' icon to the left indicate that there are titles within it.
3. We need to move the videos from the working folders, into the library folder that we want them to permanently reside in. This can be accomplished by right-clicking on the title you wish to move and clicking 'Move' (as shown below).
4. Select the appropriate folder for the video to be moved into. In this case, we have moved one of our videos from the 'Media Store/Curriculum Library Update' Working Folder to the 'Business & Economics' folder within our digital library folder structure.
5. Do this for all titles within the working folders.
1. Launch the ClickView Publisher interface.
2. Select 'Tools' from the top menu and click on 'Backup Utility'.
3. Click on the browse button [".."] in the "Backup Target Path for ClickView Data" section and select the target backup folder. This path can be referenced to either a local drive (internal or external) or a network drive.
4. From here, please browse to your desired backup location. In our case, we have selected a network location of 'Daniel-PC' and created a 'Backup' Folder in this location and then selected this as our backup target path.
5. The 'Backup Target Path' now shows as the location we have set:
6 The 'Backup Now' box can be used to start an immediate backup of your ClickView data.
7. During the 'Backup Now' process the Backup Utility will display the number of files that have been backed up, the number of files that need to be backed up, and the total number of files found within your database.
Each time the Backup Utility is executed only the files that have been recently modified, or not backed up, will be copied. Thus the number of files to back up may not match the total number of files within your database as some may have been already backed up.
Note: Please do not close the backup utility whilst a backup is taking place, as this will cause the backup to cease.
8. Once the 'Backup Now' process has completed, simply close the backup utility.
The following steps are only applicable if you are intending on migrating your ClickView Publisher (Master) instance to another machine.
The following steps are required to backup certain ClickView Library Elements that are not currently supported for ClickView Online synchronisation. It is important to backup these folders, as ClickView is actively developing support to upload these elements. By backing up these elements now, it allows these elements to be synchronised to ClickView Online as the support becomes available. ClickView recommends to follow the below steps to ensure that the elements are available for synchronisation when support is introduced.
1. Navigate to the backup location. Highlight 'Audio', 'Images', 'LearningObjects' and 'Subtitles'. Copy these folders.
2. Navigate to your migrated ClickView Library location. This can be found by opening ClickView Publisher on the migrated instance, clicking 'Tools' then 'Data Management'. Copy the 'ClickView Data Location' and paste it into file folder to navigate to your ClickView Data Location.
3. Copy the backup folders into the migrated ClickView data location.
Launch 'Registry Editor' (Regedit) > Browse to > Hkey-Local-Machine - Software - Wow6432node (if running a 64-bit OS) > ClickView > ClickView Library > Locate the 'RemoveBinaryData' DWORD value and ensure that this is set to a value of '1'
Note: Ensure all titles have been uploaded to ClickView Online before running the binary removal utility.
1. Right-click on the ClickView Publisher shortcut on the desktop. Click on 'Open file location'.
2. Open the 'ClickViewBinaryContentRemoval' application within the install directory.
3. Videos which are eligible to have binary data removed, will have a check box on the left of the video title. Select all videos for binary data removal by ticking the 'Select All' check box at the top of the window, as seen in the below screenshot.
4. To begin the removal of the selected binary data, click 'Delete selected videos'.
5. A prompt box will appear advising that 'data cannot be restored once removed from the library'. If you are sure you want to remove the binary data of the selected videos, click 'Yes'.
6. The binary removal will begin - a progress bar will appear to the right of each video title as the binary data is removed. At the top of the window, the current overall progress will be shown by displaying the number of titles with binary data removed over the number of selected titles.
7. Once all selected titles have had their binary data removed, they will appear within the 'Removed' tab, as seen within the screenshot below.
8. Ensure all titles have had their binary data removed before proceeding.
True Cloud Only - Without Local Cache
In order to run a cloud only solution without local cache, please follow the above steps (as seen within section 'Cloud Only - With Local Cache') and then follow these additional steps below.
1. Open your registry. You can do this by typing "regedit" in your Windows 8 search bar or within the 'run' dialog box if you are on Windows 7.
2. Navigate to:
64-bit Machines: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> Wow6432Node -> CLICKVIEW -> CLICKVIEW HOME
32-bit Machines: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> CLICKVIEW -> CLICKVIEW HOME
You should see the ClickView registry keys, as per the below screenshot.
3. Double click on 'LocalCacheEnabled' to alter the value. Change the 'value data' to '0' to disable local cache.
1. Open ClickView Publisher, click on 'Tools' and 'Data Management...'.
2. Copy the Local Cache Location path.
3. Navigate to that location within File Explorer. A folder called 'Cache' should be displayed. Double click on 'Cache'. Two folders should be displayed; 'Converted Files' and 'Home'. Delete the folder called 'Home'.
